Empowerment Journey
My passionate approach fosters empowerment and the client's inner ability for healing by focusing on awareness and action change. The foundation I utilize is "client centered" using an eclectic eye for which tools/methods would be most helpful for each client in psychotherapy (counseling) sessions.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) has been an amazing method to help the brain and body heal from any past experience or future fears that are painful, disturbing or traumatic. This evidenced based method helps to challenge a negative mindset, release emotions, and create a new body-mind experience for living a more authentic and vibrant life. (An EMDR INTENSIVE might be a great option which is a concentrated and accelerated therapy format over a 3-5 day period based on treatment goals. Please ask for more information if you are interested and to see if you would be a good candidate.)
Polyvagal Theory inspired therapy has been a game changer for clients in understanding how the nervous system works in reference to triggers and healing capabilities. Neuroscience supported Mindfulness Based Therapeutic Yoga (Somatic) tools include focusing on cultivating intentional and attentional mindset, breathing practices to calm the nervous system, meditation, simple movements (often seated) and postures to embody connection to wellness, body image acceptance and confidence.
I integrate traditional psychotherapy (CBT), EMDR, Polyvagal Theory, and Mindfulness Based Therapeutic Yoga (Somatic) tools as part of a vast toolbox which release stress patterns and elevate the healing process within individual psychotherapy sessions to evolve beyond eating disorders, anxiety, codependency and trauma, etc.
Specialty Certifications:

Professional Affiliations:

*National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
Process:
It typically takes two 50 minute sessions to complete an initial assessment where I will ask questions of current stressors, symptoms, and create a time-line of anything in life that has been painful, disturbing or traumatic. When the assessment is completed I will give recommendations. For clients healing through eating disorders it is often required to have a team approach including a nutritionist/dietitian and medical doctor.
If I feel like I can be of help and it is a good fit, we will start the therapy process from there. For teens, I typically give them the option to meet with me individually in the first session as a joining method to establish trust, and the parent(s) portion of sharing their perceptions and concerns is in the second session. Please note that I can not promise after school hours.
Forms and Insurance:
Please read and sign all initial paperwork prior to our first appointment to hold the time reserved.
For minors with divorced parents, both parents need to sign all the initial paperwork consenting to evaluation and treatment. PLEASE NOTE: I am not an insurance provider for any plans including Medicare. I will give you an invoice/superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance carrier if you have out of network benefits on plans other than Medicare. If you have Medicare it is not an option to file a superbill for reimbursement. Full payment is expected at the time of service.
I look forward to seeing if I can be of help on your journey.
